BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — A man is dead after a fatal accident occurred on SR-91 near mile marker zero, just off Interstate 15, on Sunday afternoon. According to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), the man was outside his vehicle, attempting to make repairs when he was struck by another car.
UHP officials reported that the victim had been working on his car along the side of the road when he was sideswiped by a passing vehicle. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead on-site.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the man stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No further details about the identity of the victim or the driver have been released at this time.
The accident caused significant traffic disruptions as three lanes of I-15 were blocked, including the right shoulder, while authorities investigated the scene. Drivers in the area were urged to avoid the area, though no estimate has been given for when the lanes will be cleared.
Authorities have not provided additional information about the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
