Weeks before a five-month-old baby lost her innocent life, her mother searched online for ways to “get rid” of a child several times.The 23-year-old mother, Joslynn Graham, was later arrested and charged in connection with the death of her baby girl, Emery Lyons.
Before little Emery’s death, the mother from Illinois, seemed to be unhappy with her infant and “expressed frustration with the child,” a witness revealed.
Later, investigators searched through Joslynn’s phone and found that the mother conducted multiple online searches on “ways to get rid of your child” before the infant’s death, reported WMBD.
On October 7, a 911 call was made to authorities, and it is unclear whether the call was made by Joslynn or the baby’s father, Cody Lyons. When first responders arrived, they found that Emery was not breathing.
Although they went to “lengthy efforts” to resuscitate the infant, they couldn’t save little Emery from suffering a tragic end. The infant was transported to Graham Hospital, where doctors tried to revive her for an hour before pronouncing her dead at 6:15 pm.
At the time, Fulton County Coroner Steve Hines said they “do know foul play is involved and the baby’s death is investigated as a homicide,” as quoted by Heart of Illinois ABC.
Investigations later revealed that Emery died from blunt force trauma to the head. An autopsy conducted later also revealed that the tiny infant’s body had multiple contusions on her head and face.
Joslynn was arrested two days after Emery was found unresponsive by first responders. The mother also told investigators that she was with Emery for most of the day on October 7, which was the day the infant passed away. The mother eventually found herself charged with first-degree murder for her daughter’s death.
In October, it was reported that she was being held at the Fulton County Jail on a bond of $1million. If convicted, she could be looking at a jail sentence of 20 to 60 years, according to the Daily Mail.
Following Emery’s death, her family set up a GoFundMe page to help them with finances during their time of grief.
“On October 7th the unthinkable happened and Cody’s baby girl went to heaven,” the family wrote. “The unexpected and tragic death of Emery has left Cody to plan a funeral and services for his baby girl alone. He will need assistance not only with the services but with living expenses for himself during this time as he is not able to return to work just yet. If you are able to give anything Cody will greatly appreciate it. If you are not In a place to make a monetary donation please add baby Emery, Cody and their families to your list of prayers, they certainly need them!!!”
On October 14, Joslynn plead not guilty in her first physical court appearance, as reported by Heart of Illinois ABC.
Joslynn is due to appear in court again on December 6.
