Ogden, UT — A 26-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges, including felony automobile homicide, following a series of crashes on Friday evening that ended in the death of a pedestrian.
The incident began around 5:10 p.m. when Tyson Bryce Treasure arrived intoxicated at Ogden Regional Hospital. Hospital staff attempted to offer him detox treatment, but Treasure refused and left the facility in a Dodge Ram pickup truck. As he drove through the hospital parking lot, he collided with at least one other vehicle. Witnesses reported his reckless driving, and several calls were made to police.
A Utah Highway Patrol trooper spotted Treasure’s truck and attempted a traffic stop. However, Treasure fled the scene, prompting the trooper to call off the pursuit as the truck headed east on 36th Street.
Moments later, police received additional reports of Treasure crashing into several other vehicles. Around 5:30 p.m., he rear-ended two cars that were stopped at a red light at the intersection of 20th Street and Harrison Blvd. The force of the collision caused one of the vehicles to strike a pedestrian who was crossing the street.
The pedestrian, later identified as James Wood, was critically injured and transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. According to a GoFundMe campaign set up by his family, Wood was walking his dog when he was struck.
In addition to the fatality, two other drivers involved in the crash sustained injuries. One suffered severe facial injuries, while another sustained major injuries to her pelvis and lower extremities.
Treasure was arrested and booked into jail on 12 charges, ranging from misdemeanor reckless driving to felony automobile homicide. He is currently being held without bail.
The incident has left the community in shock, with many expressing their condolences for the victims involved. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
