Ogden, UT — A 26-year-old man is in custody following a series of reckless crashes that left one pedestrian dead and several others seriously injured on Friday evening. Tyson Bryce Treasure, who was allegedly intoxicated, led authorities on a chaotic drive through Ogden, causing destruction and fleeing from police at multiple points.
The incident began around 5 p.m. when Ogden Regional Medical Center notified local authorities about a man who arrived at the hospital intoxicated but refused detox treatment. According to the police affidavit, Treasure left the hospital and got into a silver Dodge Ram truck. He fled the parking lot, striking at least one other vehicle before heading north on U.S. 89.
Police began receiving multiple reports of a reckless driver, and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop Treasure near 40th Street and Adams Avenue. However, Treasure failed to stop and continued driving at high speeds. After a short pursuit, the trooper abandoned the chase, and Treasure made his way to 4200 South and Harrison Boulevard.
At the intersection, Treasure rear-ended a Ford stopped in a left-turn lane, pushing it into a Kia. In an attempt to continue through the intersection against a red light, he collided with several vehicles. One of those vehicles, a Honda, was pushed into a crosswalk where a pedestrian was crossing. The pedestrian was tragically struck and killed.
Treasure continued to flee, making an illegal U-turn and striking the rear of a Tesla and another Honda at the intersection of 20th and Harrison, just south of the Big-Dee Sports Park. The crash caused the Honda to be pushed into the intersection, where it collided with a pedestrian, resulting in fatal injuries.
The situation escalated further when Treasure sped through a red light at Canyon Road and Harrison, T-boning another vehicle and pinning the driver inside. The driver suffered severe injuries, including damage to her pelvis and lower extremities. The final crash left Treasure’s truck disabled, bringing the chaotic spree to an end.
Officers on the scene observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from Treasure, and he was taken into custody. During questioning, Treasure displayed erratic behavior, alternating between calm and irritated. He admitted to driving the truck and causing the accidents, acknowledging that he had been drinking earlier in the day.
Treasure was booked into the Weber County Jail on charges including driving under the influence, automobile homicide, reckless driving, failing to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death and injury, and fleeing from law enforcement. Authorities continue to investigate the series of crashes, which have left the community shaken by the loss and injuries caused by his actions.
