Neither her parents nor her teachers realized that 14-year-old Anastasia was pregnant. The girl kept it to herself, leading to the traumatic experience of having to go through months of pregnancy all by herself and then having zero help when she finally gave birth to her baby.
After realizing she was pregnant, Anastasia was too scared to tell her parents about it and managed to keep it a secret until the baby was out, as reported by Mirror. When the girl gave birth at their family home, she did it alone. But having no guidance on what to do after, and terrified of her family finding out, the teen placed her infant in a plastic bag and kept him inside the freezer in their garage. Nobody saw her going to the garage with the infant because her father was out working in the garden and too busy to notice at the time.
At night, Anastasia was uncomfortable and experienced heavy bleeding. Her mother “heard her moaning at night and thought her daughter was suffering from appendicitis,” Nadezhda Boltenko, who is part of the investigation, according to The Sun.
Upon hearing her daughter’s screams, the mother called for an ambulance so that Anastasia could be taken to the hospital.
It was in the ambulance when Anastasia finally told someone that she had given birth to a baby. While on the way to the hospital, she spoke to the paramedics and confessed that she had given birth and then hid the child in the freezer, hoping her parents would not find out.
Unfortunately, by the time somebody got to the baby, it was too late and the newborn had frozen to death. The incident spurred an investigation and Anastasia Kuleshova, an official from the Russian Investigative Committee said that “all the circumstances of the infant’s death” will be looked into by the detectives on the case.
As more details came out, it was discovered that the father of Anastasia’s baby was a 16-year-old boy. In the summer, Anastasia and the teenage boy had ended their relationship before the girl gave birth. It was also reported that a neighbor previously asked Anastasia’s mother if she was pregnant but the mother dismissed it, saying she had just gained some weight.
Earlier this year, there was another incident that ended with a baby in the far-eastern Khabarovsk region of Russia freezing to death. Reports revealed that the baby’s mother left her seven-month-old child in a stroller and kept him out on the balcony. The mother’s intention was reportedly to let the baby sleep in fresh air but the child was left in temperatures of -7C degrees, reported BBC.
Out in the cold, the baby was left for around five hours because the mother completely forgot that she kept him on the balcony. The child froze to death and the incident led to a criminal investigation, according to Russian news site Lenta, as reported by FOX 5.
At the time, the ministry shared a message on social media and said, “Always know where and with whom [your child] is. Do not pass by if another child is in danger — in winter a child who is lost or injured on the street can very quickly become a victim of low temperatures.”
