SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH — Third District Court Judge William Kendall is currently under criminal investigation, 2News Investigates has confirmed. A spokesperson for the court confirmed the investigation but emphasized that no charges have been filed against the judge at this time. As a result of the ongoing inquiry, Kendall is not presiding over any cases.
Kendall, who was appointed to the Third District Court in December 2014, has handled cases in Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele Counties. His judicial responsibilities have included a range of cases, with some recent high-profile hearings. Among the cases Kendall presided over was the one involving Maurice Raffoul, a Salt Lake City man who was sentenced to prison for violating multiple civil stalking orders. Additionally, Kendall oversaw the case of a Salt Lake City K-9 officer who faced charges of aggravated assault in connection with a 2020 arrest.
As of now, the Judicial Conduct Commission has not responded to multiple requests for comment regarding the investigation.
The development raises questions about the judicial process and transparency, especially given the high-profile nature of the cases under Kendall’s supervision. For now, both the court system and the public are waiting for more details as the investigation continues.
At this time, no further details regarding the nature of the criminal investigation have been released.
