Salt Lake City, UT — A man was arrested Friday afternoon after police observed what appeared to be a drug deal taking place near Library Square. The incident occurred just before 4:45 p.m. in the area of 500 South and 200 East, where officers noticed two men exchanging cash for a small blue baggie.
After the exchange, the two individuals parted ways, walking in opposite directions. Police followed and stopped the man they believed had purchased the drugs. According to court documents, the man admitted to buying methamphetamine for $40.
Officers later identified the suspected seller as 53-year-old Leroy Grimes. A subsequent search of Grimes revealed drug paraphernalia and a baggie that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. He was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of felony distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Grimes, a known repeat offender, has a history of multiple drug-related convictions. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
