Bountiful, Utah — A 72-year-old man was seriously injured Monday afternoon after crashing on southbound I-15 near Bluffdale in what authorities believe to be a medical emergency.
The incident took place around 12:30 p.m. near 500 West, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. Lt. Cameron Roden stated that the man likely suffered a medical episode while driving, causing him to lose control of his vehicle. The car struck the right-side barrier before crossing all lanes of traffic and ultimately rolling over.
Troopers who arrived at the scene found the man unresponsive and not breathing. Emergency responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
As emergency crews worked to clear the scene, the southbound HOV lane, along with lanes 1 and 2, were temporarily closed. Traffic was diverted to Legacy Parkway, with authorities initially expecting the area to be cleared by 1 p.m.
Officials have not released the identity of the man, and the cause of the medical emergency is still under investigation. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution in the area as authorities continue to investigate the crash.
