SANDY, Utah — A teenager was hospitalized after being shot Thursday evening in a reported gang-related incident near Big Bear Park.
The Unified Police Department (UPD) responded to the scene at approximately 5 p.m., following reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of a shooting, including shell casings scattered nearby. Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles speeding away from the scene shortly after the shots rang out.
Approximately 20 minutes later, police were notified that a 17-year-old victim had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. According to UPD officials, the teenager was shot in an extremity, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities have indicated that the shooting is likely gang-related and are working with other law enforcement agencies to track down the suspects. At this time, UPD has reassured the public that the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
