SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Two men have been arrested in connection with a road rage incident that escalated when one of the suspects allegedly chased down victims while brandishing a firearm.
Jeffrey Alan Evans, 37, was arrested on several felony charges, including aggravated assault and possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person. His charges also include unlawful acquisition of financial cards, theft of a firearm, and possession of another individual’s identification.
Allen Logan Hileman, 29, faces charges of aggravated assault and reckless driving with a road rage enhancement. He was also cited for driving on a suspended or revoked license.
According to arrest documents, the incident began when the victims were parked outside an apartment building and were confronted by Evans, who allegedly got out of his vehicle and began yelling at them. The confrontation escalated when Evans returned to his vehicle, retrieved a black handgun, and pointed it at the victims.
In an attempt to escape, the victims fled in their own car. Evans reportedly followed them on foot, gun in hand, before getting into Hileman’s vehicle and continuing the pursuit. The suspects chased the victims through the streets, running a red light in the process. The victims ran another red light in a desperate attempt to evade their pursuers, but the suspects followed until they turned around.
The victim’s call to police led authorities to locate the suspect vehicle in the same parking lot where the incident began. Both Evans and Hileman initially denied any involvement in the chase or the presence of a weapon, but further investigation revealed the handgun, which was stolen, in Evans’s van located at the scene.
Evans has a prior criminal history, including felony convictions related to the possession of a firearm by a restricted person. Authorities also discovered that Evans had a history of evading police when attempting to arrest him on previous warrants.
Both men were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. Evans’s charges also include unlawful possession of another person’s identification, affecting the records of 3-99 individuals.
Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation into the incident, but the swift response by the victims and officers ultimately led to the arrest of the suspects involved in this dangerous and escalating confrontation.
