WANSHIP, Utah — A man and woman from New Jersey were arrested after being found transporting more than 100 pounds of marijuana through Utah, authorities reported Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Interstate 80 near milepost 156 in Wanship, when a Utah Highway Patrol trooper stopped a transit van for speeding. Upon approaching the vehicle, the trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana.
The driver, 40-year-old Martin Davis Little, and the passenger, 28-year-old Shadaya Yvonne Weaver, both presented New Jersey driver’s licenses. When questioned, neither could produce a medical marijuana card.
Little admitted that he and Weaver were transporting a package, but claimed the contents were hemp. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed multiple cardboard boxes containing marijuana plant material and pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes. The total weight of the marijuana exceeded 100 pounds.
Both Little and Weaver were taken into custody and booked into the Summit County Jail. They face charges including possession with intent to distribute, possession of more than 100 pounds of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance. Little also faces a speeding citation.
Authorities continue to investigate the case.
