“No smoking” is a message that passengers hear or read in every single flight they step onto. However, a woman traveling on a Spirt Airlines flight paid no heed to the rule and nonchalantly lit up a cigarette inside the closed cabin. This unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday, August 24. Details about why the plane took such a long time to taxi were not disclosed.
While the passengers waited inside the plane, the unidentified woman pulled out a cigarette and lit it on the tarmac. Alexa was the passenger sitting right behind the smoking woman.
Alexa revealed that she suffers from asthma and was extremely uncomfortable when the indignant woman started to smoke. “She literally took out a cigarette and just started smoking,” Alexa said. “I said, ‘Is this real life?'” Instead of putting out the cigarette, the woman turned around and blew the smoke right in Alexa’s face.
“She’s smoking it in my face. She’s turning around to blow it,” Alexa added. After Alexa alerted the flight crew, they told her that she could shift to the back of the plane. And Alexa accepted the offer. “This has been banned for a long time,” added Alexa, still unable to believe that the woman would do something that has been prohibited for decades. “What decade do you live in?”
Once flight attendants were alerted, they informed authorities and had the police get involved. “Flight Attendants noticed the odor and the other Guests were quick to point out who was responsible and hand over what remained of the extinguished cigarette,” said a statement released by a Spirit Airlines spokesperson. “Our crew summoned law enforcement officers to have them waiting at the gate to remove the passenger.”
Police officers arrived and entered the flight to escort the woman off the plane. At the time, the woman seemed to be asleep, and one passenger said she was “acting dead”. The police woke her up and said: “Come on, let’s go. Do you have a bag?” A couple of overhead compartments were searched to find the woman’s belongings. Meanwhile, a few of the other passengers began growing unruly and one was heard saying: “She might not even got no bags. Hey, she might not even got no bags, she’s f**king with y’all. Her bags are under the plane, man. Take her off.”
A police officer responded by saying: “I know y’all don’t believe this, but we can actually do this without your assistance.” The woman, who smoked the cigarette, calmly does what she is told and follows the police officers out of the plane. She was allowed to go without any arrest.
