WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Jared Dallan Buckley, the lead director of the Leadership Learning Academy, a K-6 charter school, was arrested Tuesday on multiple felony charges related to child sexual exploitation. Buckley, 40, faces two first-degree felony counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and one second-degree felony count of sexual exploitation of a minor.
The arrest follows a lengthy investigation that began after law enforcement officers in New York received information about a man selling and distributing child sexual abuse material. Authorities in New York believed the individual was operating out of Utah and subsequently reached out to local law enforcement in the state.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, preliminary information gathered by investigators suggested that Buckley could also be involved in the production of child sexual abuse material, possibly involving children outside of the United States. The investigation led West Valley Police officers to identify Buckley as the owner of the device linked to the distribution of this material.
Following the identification, a search warrant was executed at Buckley’s residence, vehicle, and personal belongings. Law enforcement officials reportedly found evidence confirming the distribution of child sexual abuse material, leading to Buckley’s arrest.
Buckley is currently facing serious charges, which could carry significant legal consequences if he is convicted. Authorities have emphasized the severity of the crime and the ongoing nature of the investigation. It remains unclear if additional individuals may be implicated in the case.
The Leadership Learning Academy, which operates campuses in Layton and Ogden, has not yet commented publicly on the arrest. The school serves a large number of young children and has a significant role in the local community. As the investigation unfolds, parents and staff are left grappling with the unsettling news of their leader’s alleged involvement in such heinous acts.
The case continues to draw attention, with many questions still surrounding the full extent of Buckley’s involvement and potential connections to international criminal activity. Law enforcement officials have pledged to pursue all leads to ensure justice is served.
